Coconut Dalia Chutney for Idli / Dosa



Coconut Dalia Chutney is a compliment for all most all South Indian breakfasts like Dosa, Idli, Upma, Pesarattu...the list goes on .This chutney also goes well with few snacks like bajjis. In some South Indian families this chutney is made almost everyday. 

There are many ways of making coocnut chutney with red chillies, dalia, peanuts, sesema seeds. But this is the most famous chutney and our favorite. Here is the easiest way to make this.




1/2 Coconut or 1 cup Coconut pieces
1/2 cup Dalia
1 teaspoon salt
2-3 Green Chillies
3/4 - 1 cup Water


1 teaspoon Oil
1/4 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
10 Curry Leaves


  1. Clean Coconut pieces. Grind it till coarse.
  2. Add dalia, green chillies and salt. Grind it again for 2-3 minutes. Add water 1/4 cup at a time and grind it to a smooth paste. Transfer this into a bowl.
  3. In a small pan, add oil, mustard seeds. When they crackle, add curry leaves. Saute for 10 sec and then add this chutney.
