A perfect rainy day snack. On a rainy cold day have Mirchi bajji with a cup of hot tea in the evening you will forget everything else. Its raining here since almost a week. So I am a making snacks almost everyday.
Mirchi Bajji is the most popular street food specially in South India. It is easy to make. My mom always makes mirchi bajji stuffed with ajwain.I also made it like that today. You can also make a plain bajji wihtout stuffing. You can use either long green chillies or jalapenos. Jalapenos (Bajji mirapakaya) is less spicier than green chillies.
Ingredients
12 Green Chillies / Jalapenos
1 cup Chickpea Flour / Besan
1/ 2 teaspoon Salt
1/2 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
2-3 tablespoons Ajwain / Vaamu
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Water
- Heat oil. Make a slit lengthwise on chilli in the middle on one side. Remove the vein which holds seeds. (You can keep the vein if you want it spicy). Then stuff ajwain in it.
- In a bowl, add salt , red chilli powder, baking powder to chickpea flour. Add water slowly to this mix it well and make bajji batter (I added 1/2 cup of water).
- Dip the stuffed chilli in batter, completely cover it with batter and place them gently in hot oil. Remove from oil when they turn golden brown.
