Butter Icing for Cup Cakes & Cakes

There is no hard and fast rule for making cup cakes icing / frosting. There are so many different varieties of cup cake frosting recipes . It depends on the look and the thickness you want. Butter icing / butter frosting goes well with cup cakes or cake. It is easy to pipe and spread and holds its shape well.

The recipe which I follow is a basic recipe with just 3 ingredients. This can be piped or spread on the top of the cup cakes and cakes. You can vary the flavours and the colours of your choice.

Make these irresistible Cup cakes for a party for get together or enjoy these with your family with a cup of tea.

125 g  / 1/2 cup Butter
1 1/2 cup Icing Sugar
2-3 drops of Food Colour
1 -2 tablespoons of Milk (Optional)

  1. Have butter and Icing Sugar at room temperature. Beat butter thoroughly.
  2. Add half of the Icing sugar initially, beat it constantly  and add the remaining Icing sugar. Add colour and mix it.  Check if you got the right consistency. Icing should be easy to spread or pipe. Add milk little by little until you get the right consistency. If you are piping the icing should be thick enough to hold its shape. (I have not added milk)
  3. Before decorating the cup cakes and cakes with icing don't forget to level the them. Icing looks beautiful on the leveled cup cakes and cakes. (Tip : When you make cup cakes and want to decorate them with icing fill only 1/2 of the cup cake and then bake). Now select the nozzle of your choice. Take the icing into a piping bag and start piping (decorating). This is again your choice.
  4. Finally you can sprinkle it with edible sugar balls, choco chips, chocolate flakes or even fruits.
  5. Enjoy these with your family.
