Andhra Mango Dal / Andhra Mavidikaya Pappu

 
 
This Tangy, sweet and sour mango recipe tempts me a lot.  Hot rice with Mango Dal and a spoon of Ghee on it makes a real summer day for me. Photo session for Mango Dal is over. Attack :) Can't wait any more .  
 
This is my first recipe with mango this year as spring has just started in SA. I am mad about mangoes. Mangoes in any form temptes me.
 
 
 

Ingredients

1 Cup Mango Pieces (1 Big Raw Mango / 3 Small Raw Mangoes)
1 Cup Tuar Dal / Split Red Gram 
3 Cups Water
3/4 teaspoon Salt
1/4 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
 

To Temper

1 tablespoon Oil
2 Green Chillies
10 - 12 Curry Leaves
1/2 teaspoon Jeera / Cumin Seeds
1/2 teaspoon Sarson / Mustard Seeds
1 teaspoon Bengal Gram/ Channa Dal
1 teaspoon Black Gram / Urad Dal
 
  1. Remove seed/s from Mango. Cut into pieces and keep in water till use. Pressure Cook Tuar Dal with 2 cups of Water for 3 whistles or boil till it becomes soft. Mash it. Keep it aside.
  2. Heat a pan with a tablespoon of Oil, add all other items except Green Chillies and Curry leaves. When Cumin Seeds starts to crackle, add Green Chillies and Curry Leaves and fry till Dals turn light brown.
  3. Then add Raw Mango pieces, Salt and Turmeric powder . Fry for 5 mintutes or till the pieces becomes soft
  4. Pour a cup of Water, let it boil. Now add mashed Tuar Dal to this, mix and boil again for 5 minutes.
